An 8-day expedition into the heart of the Thar Desert, exploring golden dunes, ancient forts, and vibrant markets.

Trip Overview

Journey deep into the golden sands of Rajasthan on this unhurried 8-day adventure. Starting from the bustling Pink City of Jaipur, you will cross the arid landscapes to the historic camel-trading outpost of Bikaner. The highlight awaits in Jaisalmer, where you will sleep under the stars in luxury Swiss tents amidst the Sam Sand Dunes. Conclude your journey beneath the towering walls of Mehrangarh Fort in the Blue City of Jodhpur.

Day 1 Arrival in the Pink City (Jaipur)

Your royal journey begins as you land at Jaipur International Airport or arrive at the Railway Station. Your chauffeur will transfer you to your premium heritage hotel. Spend a relaxed evening unwinding, or visit the spectacular Albert Hall Museum illuminated at night. Enjoy a traditional welcome dinner.

Day 2 The Grandeur of Amber & Jaipur Palaces

After a lavish breakfast, take a scenic drive out of the city center to the majestic Amber Fort. Enjoy an elephant or jeep ride to the main courtyard. En route back, photograph the beautiful Jal Mahal (Water Palace) floating in Man Sagar Lake. In the afternoon, explore the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and the iconic Hawa Mahal.

Day 3 Jaipur to the Desert Outpost (Bikaner)

Leave the Pink City behind and drive westward into the shifting landscapes of the Thar Desert toward Bikaner (approx. 5-6 hours). Upon arrival, check into your Haveli. In the afternoon, explore the formidable Junagarh Fort, a remarkably preserved, unconquered fortress featuring beautiful palaces and courtyards.

Day 4 Bikaner to the Golden City (Jaisalmer)

Visit the world-famous Karni Mata (Rat) Temple in Deshnoke in the morning before setting off on a beautiful, arid highway drive to Jaisalmer (approx. 5 hours). Arrive in the "Golden City" by late afternoon and check into your hotel. Spend the evening enjoying a serene walk around the tranquil Gadisar Lake.

Day 5 Jaisalmer Fort & The Thar Desert Safari

Explore the "living fort" of Jaisalmer, where thousands of residents still live within its golden sandstone walls. Visit the exquisitely carved Patwon Ki Haveli. In the late afternoon, drive to the Sam Sand Dunes. Embark on a thrilling 4x4 Jeep or camel safari across the sweeping dunes at sunset. Check into your luxury Swiss tent for an unforgettable evening of desert bonfires, Kalbelia folk music, and a starlit dinner.

Day 6 The Desert to the Blue City (Jodhpur)

Wake up to a crisp desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, depart for Jodhpur (approx. 5 hours). Arrive in the magnificent "Blue City," the historic capital of the Marwar kingdom. Check into your premium property and enjoy a relaxed evening exploring the vibrant Sardar Market around the Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower).

Day 7 Mehrangarh Fort & Jodhpur Royal Sights

Dedicate the morning to exploring the colossal Mehrangarh Fort, perched 400 feet above the city. Walk through its magnificent courtyards and palaces like the Phool Mahal (Flower Palace). Next, visit Jaswant Thada, a brilliant white marble cenotaph often called the "Taj Mahal of Marwar." Spend the rest of the day at your leisure or visit the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace museum.

Day 8 Departure from Jodhpur

Enjoy a final, lavish royal breakfast. Depending on your flight or train schedule, you may do some last-minute shopping for Jodhpuri handicrafts, authentic spices, or textiles. Your chauffeur will provide a seamless transfer to the Jodhpur Airport or Railway Station for your journey home.

Travel Guide

The Royal Compass

Critical insights to ensure your journey through the land of kings is seamless, comfortable, and culturally enriching.

Best Time to Visit

The desert climate dictates the perfect travel window:

  • Winter (Oct - Mar): The peak and perfect season. Warm, sunny days and cool, comfortable nights.
  • Summer (Apr - Jun): Searing heat often exceeding 45°C. Sightseeing is severely restricted to early mornings. Avoid deep desert areas.
  • Monsoon (Jul - Sep): Occasional showers bring relief, but humidity can be high. Jaisalmer remains mostly dry.

The Desert Safari Experience

Jaisalmer's dunes are legendary, but require preparation:

  • Temperature Drops: While daytime in the dunes is warm, winter nights in the Swiss tents can drop near freezing. Pack heavy woolens.
  • Jeep vs. Camel: We highly recommend the thrilling 4x4 dune bashing. Camel rides are provided but are best kept short for ethical reasons.

Monument Etiquette

Rajasthan is an open-air museum of active temples and private palaces:

  • Guide Services: We highly recommend utilizing the official, certified guides at massive sites like Mehrangarh and Amber Fort.
  • Karni Mata Temple: Out of respect, leather items (belts, wallets) are often frowned upon. Be prepared to walk barefoot or in socks among the sacred rats.

Highway Travel

This 8-day itinerary involves significant inter-city driving:

  • The Roads: Rajasthan boasts some of the best, straightest highways in India. The desert drives (Bikaner to Jaisalmer) are incredibly smooth and scenic.
  • Vehicle Choice: While sedans are perfectly fine for the highways, SUVs (Innova) offer vastly superior comfort for the long 5-hour stretches between cities.

Royal Shopping

Each city in Rajasthan has its own unique artisanal specialty:

  • Jaipur: The global capital for precious gemstones, Kundan jewelry, and block-printed textiles (block prints).
  • Jodhpur: Famous for beautifully crafted wooden furniture, antiques, and authentic spices like Mathania chilies.
  • Jaisalmer: Excellent for mirror-work embroidery, camel leather items, and fossil stones.

Culinary Delights

Rajput cuisine is rich, fiery, and deeply flavorful:

  • Dal Baati Churma: The quintessential Rajasthani vegetarian dish. Hard wheat rolls served with lentil curry and sweet crushed wheat.
  • Laal Maas: A fiery, smoky mutton curry prepared with special Mathania red chilies—a must-try for non-vegetarians.
  • Ker Sangri: A traditional desert vegetable dish unique to the arid regions of Jaisalmer and Bikaner.
