Immerse yourself in the vivid colors and profound mythology of the Mithila region. This 3-day cultural trail is designed for art lovers and history enthusiasts. You will walk through the legendary villages of Jitwarpur and Ranti—home to multiple Padma Shri award-winning artists—to witness the creation of authentic Madhubani paintings. You will also explore the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the Rajnagar Palace and soak in the deeply traditional Maithili culture.
Day 1 Arrival & The Ruins of Rajnagar
Arrive at Darbhanga Airport or Madhubani Railway Station. Your chauffeur will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After lunch and some rest, drive to the historic town of Rajnagar (approx. 45 mins). Explore the breathtaking Navlakha Palace ruins, built by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh. Though heavily damaged in the 1934 earthquake, the intricate terracotta carvings, massive arches, and the beautiful Kali Temple remain a spectacular sight. Return to your hotel for an authentic Maithili dinner.
Day 2 The Artisan Villages: Ranti & Jitwarpur
After breakfast, dedicate the day entirely to the world-renowned Mithila art. First, visit Ranti Village, famous for its intricate line-work and female artists who have passed down the tradition for generations. Later, proceed to Jitwarpur, the epicenter of Madhubani painting and home to multiple Padma Shri awardees. Walk through the village, visit the artists' homes, observe them creating vivid masterpieces using natural dyes, and purchase authentic artwork directly from the creators.
Day 3 Sacred Heritage & Departure
Start your morning with a visit to the highly revered Kapileshwar Sthan, an ancient Shiva temple of immense significance to the locals, or visit Saurath, the historic village famous for the 'Saurath Sabha' (a traditional matrimonial gathering of Maithil Brahmins). After a final local breakfast featuring regional delicacies like Makhana (fox nuts), your chauffeur will transfer you to Darbhanga Airport or the railway station for your journey home.
