Daringbadi Nature Escape

Experience the "Kashmir of Odisha" through mist-covered pine forests, coffee gardens, and silent valleys.

Trip Overview

Journey into the heart of the Eastern Ghats. At an altitude of 3,000 feet, Daringbadi is Odisha's only hill station, renowned for its plunging winter temperatures and stunning landscapes. This comprehensive 4-day circuit goes beyond the standard tourist spots. You will wander through dense pine forests and coffee plantations, and we will take you completely off the grid to the breathtaking Mandasaru Gorge and the remote tribal lands of Belghar.

Day 1 Ascent to the Kashmir of Odisha

Arrive at Brahmapur Railway Station (or Bhubaneswar Airport). Your chauffeur will drive you through the scenic, winding ghat roads of the Sorada route towards Daringbadi (approx. 3.5 hours from Brahmapur). As you climb, feel the temperature drop significantly. Check into your eco-resort. In the late afternoon, visit Hill View Park for a panoramic view of the rolling hills and catch your first spectacular mountain sunset at the Nature Park.

Day 2 Waterfalls, Pines, and Coffee Trails

After breakfast, begin the classic Daringbadi exploration. Walk through the beautifully maintained, towering Pine Forest, offering a landscape unique to this part of Eastern India. Visit the sprawling Daringbadi Coffee and Black Pepper Gardens, learning about local high-altitude agriculture. Later, take a short, rugged hike down to the Midubanda Waterfall, hidden deep within the forest. End the day relaxing at the picturesque Lover's Paradise.

Day 3 The Silent Valley (Mandasaru) & Belghar

Today is dedicated to completely offbeat exploration. Drive to the Mandasaru Valley (approx. 1 hour), famously known as the 'Silent Valley of Odisha'. This breathtaking, crowdless gorge features multiple echo points and pristine eco-parks. Afterwards, drive further into the wilderness towards Belghar (approx. 2 hours from Mandasaru). Known for its dense forests, wild elephants, and the indigenous Kutia Kondh tribes, Belghar offers an incredibly raw and authentic view of the untouched Eastern Ghats. Return to Daringbadi in the evening.

Day 4 Khasada Falls & Departure

Check out after an early breakfast. Begin your descent back to the plains. En route, make a memorable stop at the beautiful Khasada Waterfall, where you can safely walk along the wide, cascading rock beds and take a refreshing dip. Your chauffeur will then drop you at Brahmapur Railway Station or Bhubaneswar Airport for your journey home, rejuvenated by the silence of the hills.

Travel Guide

The Eastern Ghats Compass

Critical operational details to ensure your Daringbadi getaway is comfortable, safe, and perfectly planned.

The Winter Freeze

Daringbadi lives up to its "Kashmir" reputation:

  • Winter (Dec - Feb): Temperatures at night can plummet to near zero degrees, sometimes creating frost on the grass (often mistaken for snow). Heavy winter clothing is absolutely mandatory.
  • Room Heating: Many budget homestays do not have room heaters; they rely on thick blankets. Premium resorts offer better insulation.

Navigating the Ghat Roads

The journey into the hills requires care:

  • The Drive: The road from Brahmapur via Sorada or from Bhubaneswar via Phulbani involves steep, winding ghats. If you are prone to motion sickness, take necessary precautions before the ascent.
  • Sunset Curfews: Driving in remote areas like Belghar after dark is strictly avoided for safety and visibility reasons.

Network & Connectivity

A true escape from the digital world:

  • Signal Drops: Once you leave the main Daringbadi town center, especially in Mandasaru and Belghar, mobile networks (except Jio and BSNL) will completely drop.
  • Cash is King: UPI and card machines frequently fail due to network issues. Carry enough physical cash from Brahmapur/Bhubaneswar.

Waterfall Trekking

Reaching the hidden falls:

  • Midubanda Falls: Reaching the base of the waterfall requires walking down steep, natural, and sometimes slippery stone steps. Sturdy, grip-heavy walking shoes are required. It may not be suitable for elderly guests with severe knee issues.

Dining & AP Plans

Food is rustic, localized, and incredibly fresh:

  • Resort Dining: There are extremely few standalone restaurants in Daringbadi. Therefore, all your meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are included at your resort (AP Plan). Expect delicious, simple Odia and Bengali-style cuisine.

Responsible Eco-Tourism

Protecting the pristine Eastern Ghats:

  • Plastic Ban: Daringbadi is an eco-sensitive zone. Please carry reusable water bottles and avoid leaving any plastic waste in the pine forests, Mandasaru valley, or waterfall areas.
