Trip Overview
Immerse yourself in the cultural and natural soul of the Rarh region. This 4-day circuit begins in Bishnupur, the capital of the Malla Kings, famous for its exquisite terracotta architecture and Baluchari silk. You will then transition from heritage to nature, moving towards the sprawling, tranquil waters of the Kangsabati Dam at Mukutmanipur, and finally exploring the lush, forested slopes of Susunia and Biharinath hills.
Day 1 Arrival in the Terracotta Capital (Bishnupur)
Arrive at Bishnupur Railway Station or drive in from Kolkata/Asansol. Your chauffeur will assist with checking into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the magnificent terracotta monuments built by the Malla Kings in the 17th century. Visit the iconic Rasmancha, the intricately carved Shyam Raya Temple, and the Jor Bangla Temple. In the evening, explore the local weaving centers to witness the creation of world-famous Baluchari and Swarnachari silk sarees.
Day 2 Bishnupur Heritage to Mukutmanipur
After breakfast, visit the giant Dalmadal Kaman (cannon) and the ruins of the Bishnupur Fort. In the late morning, depart the temple city and drive towards Mukutmanipur (approx. 2 hours), located at the confluence of the Kangsabati and Kumari rivers. Check into your resort. Spend a deeply relaxing afternoon taking a boat ride across the massive dam, culminating in a spectacular sunset over the water.
Day 3 The Forested Hills of Susunia & Biharinath
Leave the lake behind and drive towards the rugged beauty of Susunia Hill (approx. 2 hours). Covered in dense foliage and known for its medicinal springs and ancient rock inscriptions, Susunia is a favorite for light trekking. After lunch, take a scenic drive to Biharinath, the tallest hill in the Bankura district, offering pristine greenery and an ancient Shiva temple at its base. Return to your resort in the evening for a local Baul sangeet performance (available in premium tiers).
Day 4 Joypur Forest & Departure
Check out after breakfast. On your way back, drive through the dense, towering Sal trees of the Joypur Forest. If you are lucky, you might spot herds of wild deer or elephants crossing the road. You can stop at a jungle resort for a final cup of tea before your chauffeur drops you off at the designated railway station for your comfortable journey back home.
