5 Days / 4 Nights

The Coastal & Coffee Circuit

A stunning geographical contrast. Explore the deep blue coastline of Vizag before ascending into the misty, emerald-green coffee estates of the Araku Valley.

Trip Overview

Experience two vastly different worlds in one seamless journey. This 5-day circuit begins in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), the "City of Destiny." You will explore its naval history, massive submarine museums, and long, sandy beaches. On Day 3, you will embark on one of India's most spectacular train journeys, winding through the Eastern Ghats into the Araku Valley. Located at an altitude of 3,000 feet, Araku is a pristine haven of tribal culture, cascading waterfalls, and vast organic coffee plantations.

Day 1 Arrival in the City of Destiny (Vizag)

Arrive at Visakhapatnam Airport (VTZ) or Railway Station. Your private chauffeur will transfer you to your hotel. After a brief rest, begin your coastal exploration at the iconic Ramakrishna (RK) Beach. Visit the INS Kurusura Submarine Museum, a real decommissioned Indian Navy submarine set up right on the sands, and the nearby TU 142 Aircraft Museum. Conclude your evening with a leisurely walk along the bustling beach road, sampling local coastal street food.

Day 2 The Rushikonda Coast & Kailasagiri

After breakfast, drive along the highly scenic coastal road toward Rushikonda Beach, known for its golden sands and clear waters. Enjoy the morning relaxing by the sea or partaking in water sports. Later, take the picturesque ropeway (cable car) up to Kailasagiri Hill Park. Standing 360 feet overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the park features massive white statues of Shiva and Parvati and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Vizag coastline and cityscape.

Day 3 The Glass-Domed Train to Araku Valley

Check out early and transfer to the Visakhapatnam Railway Station. Board the Kirandul Passenger train (Vistadome coaches recommended for Premium/Luxury tiers) for a spectacular 4-hour journey into the Eastern Ghats. The train passes through 58 dark tunnels, over 84 bridges, and past deep, lush ravines. Disembark at Araku Station, where your chauffeur will be waiting. Check into your valley resort. Spend the afternoon visiting the Tribal Museum to understand the indigenous culture of the region.

Day 4 Coffee Plantations, Waterfalls & Borra Caves

Wake up to the misty, cool air of Araku. Begin your day with a guided walk through the sprawling organic coffee plantations, learning about cultivation and tasting freshly brewed local coffee. Next, visit the cascading Chaparai Waterfalls. In the afternoon, take a short drive to the magnificent Borra Caves. Believed to be 150 million years old, these massive limestone caves feature spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations beautifully illuminated by the tourism department.

Day 5 Descent to the Coast & Departure

Enjoy a final mountain breakfast in the valley. Check out of your resort and embark on the highly scenic drive descending the ghats back towards the coastal plains of Visakhapatnam (approx. 3.5 hours). Stop at the Galikonda Viewpoint for one last panoramic look at the Eastern Ghats. Your chauffeur will transfer you to Visakhapatnam Airport (VTZ) or Railway Station for your onward journey.

Travel Guide

The Coastal Compass

Critical operational details to set the right expectations for this diverse coastal and mountain circuit.

Vistadome Train Tickets

Securing the glass-roof experience:

  • High Demand: The Vistadome coach (with a glass roof and large windows) on the train to Araku is incredibly popular and sells out quickly. While we include this in the Affordable and Super Luxury tiers, it is strictly subject to IRCTC availability at the time of booking.

The Dual Climate

Packing for extremes:

  • Layers Required: Vizag is a highly humid, tropical coastal city. You will need light cotton clothing and sun protection. However, Araku Valley is situated at 3,000 feet; temperatures can drop significantly at night, especially between November and February. Pack a warm jacket or sweater.

Borra Caves Terrain

Navigating the limestone:

  • Physical Exertion: Exploring the Borra Caves involves walking down (and back up) hundreds of steep, often slippery steps deep into the cavern. It is physically demanding and can be claustrophobic for some. Sturdy, anti-slip walking shoes are absolutely mandatory.

Ocean Safety

Swimming on the coast:

  • Strong Currents: While Ramakrishna (RK) Beach is beautiful for walking, the currents are notoriously strong and sudden drop-offs are common. Swimming is strictly prohibited. If you wish to swim or do water sports, Rushikonda Beach is the much safer, designated zone.

Authentic Araku Coffee

Sourcing the best brew:

  • Tribal Cooperatives: Araku coffee is unique because it is grown by indigenous tribal cooperatives and is entirely organic. To ensure you are buying authentic produce, we recommend purchasing directly from the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) outlets or directly at the plantations.

The Mountain Drive Back

Descending the ghats:

  • Motion Sickness: While you take the train *up* to Araku, the return journey (Day 5) is typically by car so your chauffeur can drive you directly to the airport. This drive involves winding mountain roads. If prone to motion sickness, take medication prior to departure.
